Hello,
My wife and i are interested in joining the SCA. We live in Rochester and basically have no idea how to go about it. Melissa is interested in the craft side of things, she would like to get into cooking and sowing. I enjoy brewing and would love to get into the combat as well. When i was younger i had some friends who were in the SCA but i moved away and did not get a chance to pursue it. I had been learning to fight with a glaive. Any help that could be offered to point us in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the Barony of Stonemarche!

I'd suggest joining the Stonemarche Yahoo group over at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stonemarche/

Just say hi and introduce yourself like you did here. There are more folks active there than here as far as I can tell.

Also, keep an eye on http://www.eastkingdom.org/event-list.html for upcoming events.

There are also Craft Nights at Kythe's place in Deerfield: http://stonemarche.com/calendar/details/deer_craft.html

Hope this helps a little...

There are also a number of combat practices in the area.

Every Tuesday from 6:00 - 8:30(?) there's one at Portland Maine - For details/directions: http://www.geocities.com/colosseum/lodge/4379/schedule.html

Every other Tuesday (depending on weather) there's one in Conic - check this thread: http://www.honorblade.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2322

Every Thursday (which is likely to change to every Wednesday) there is one in Londonderry - http://www.honorblade.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1772

Every Sunday(?) there is one in Epsom - http://www.honorblade.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2297

Farther afield, there are practices at MIT, Rhode Island, etc.

There is also a more formal class being taught in Dover on Fiore di Liberi, who wrote a how-to book on fighting in 1405ish - looks like their web page is down, but it usually lives at www.academyofknightlyarts.com

If you're interested in hitting one or more of these, post something. There are generally other people headed that way and you can carpool.

Did you get all of your questions answered? Have you had the opportunity to meet anyone or attend any of the gatherings? While I have not been especially active in Stonemarche, I have been a member of the SCA for 27 years now. If I can help in any way, please let me know.

Best Wishes,

Aranon
